WHAT IS HEx?

HEx – the Hope Experiment is a live music production created by Kaz Hawkins and Franck Le Masle, bringing together Kaz’s original songs, multiple voices, acoustic and electric instrumentation, orchestral textures and immersive soundscapes.

Built around themes of hope, healing and human connection, HEx combines Kaz’s songwriting and storytelling with a collective of multi-instrumental musicians.

The music moves across genres rather than belonging to one, allowing each song to dictate its own sound and atmosphere.

HEx is available in different live configurations, from a six-piece production to the full ensemble, allowing the project to adapt to different stages and venues without changing its artistic identity.

Our Story

HEx began with a friendship, a shared belief in the power of music and a question between Kaz Hawkins and Franck Le Masle: what could happen if hope became the starting point for an entire live experience?

Created in 2025, the idea grew from Kaz’s most loved song Surviving into something much bigger. Bringing musicians together to build a project where songs, sound and human connection could live without boundaries. 2026 became the year to experiment, develop and prepare. In 2027, Hope takes flight.

INSIDE HEx

HEx has no fixed genre. The music moves freely through soul, folk and Celtic influences, combining Kaz Hawkins’ songwriting and distinctive voice with rich vocal harmonies, rhythmic percussion, strings, acoustic and electric instrumentation and immersive soundscapes.
Piano, guitars, bass and double bass, drums, percussion, cello, violin, mandolin and Irish bouzouki are among the instruments used across the project, with musicians often moving between instruments and voices throughout the performance.
Each arrangement is built around the song rather than a musical formula from stripped-back, exposed moments to powerful full-ensemble performances with orchestral depth and cinematic scale.
At the heart of HEx are Kaz Hawkins and musical director Franck Le Masle, surrounded by a collective of multi-instrumental musicians and vocalists.
The full ensemble brings together piano, guitars, bass and double bass, drums, percussion, cello, violin, mandolin, bouzouki and multiple voices, allowing the instrumentation and musical colours to change from song to song.
HEx is deliberately collaborative. The musicians are not simply a backing band around a lead artist; each brings their own musical identity to the arrangements, creating a live sound that grows from the collective.
HEx is designed as more than a conventional concert. Music, storytelling, voices, instrumentation and atmospheric soundscapes come together to create a shared journey built around hope, healing and human connection, creating a safe space to explore emotion.
The production can adapt from a six-piece HEx to the full ensemble, allowing the project to work across different stages, venues and festival settings without changing its artistic identity.
At full scale, additional musicians, strings, voices and instrumentation expand the arrangements into a large ensemble experience; in the smaller configuration, the same songs and musical identity remain at the centre of the performance.
The result is a show capable of moving from stillness and vulnerability to celebration, power and a stage full of sound.
